Meanwhile in Cork ...
"Miscellaneous Notes on Republicanism and Socialism in Cork" by Jim Lane is a rare insiders account of the inner workings of the IRA in the south. Deep in the relative safety of the Republic, Co Cork acted as a training ground and many familiar faces- Sean South, Sean MacStoifain, etc feature in the narrative.
He also recounts the internal splits, personality conflicts, etc, revealing an organization not entirely at peace with itself. Lane and his comrades, frustrated at the Cork Brigade's refusal to actively fight in the North and sidelined on account of their left wing politics, eventually broke away and formed their own republican group, whose activities he accounts for as well.
